About BALA

BALA was founded in 2013 “to provide a special forum for members of the legal profession with interests and ties to the Brazilian American community to exchange ideas, discuss issues, network, and serve our community.”

Context

As of 2013, Brazil is the seventh largest economy in the world.  Brazil has some of the most competitive and innovative organizations in the world.  The US is the largest economy in the world and is home to the world's biggest organizations.  Trade between the two countries now exceeds $100 billion a year.

BALA foresees greater interaction between both economies.  We anticipate that this will call for stronger cooperation between the two nations, which unarguably will stimulate deeper relations politically, socially and professionally.

Lawyers, both at home and abroad, play a vital role in the political, social and economic development of Brazil.  BALA was founded with this context in mind; the need to strengthen our networks, exchange ideas and serve our community.

Outlook

BALA is the only organization of its kind in North America.  It was founded in 2013 in New York City by Brazilian and American lawyers who shared a vision for greater interaction between Brazilian American lawyers.  By interaction, we mean a forum to exchange knowledge, insights and networks.

BALA proudly hosts a number of standing committees of interest to the Brazilian American legal community.  BALA also encourages the creation of ad hoc committees to explore focused issues.

BALA's flagship publication, the Brazilian-American Legal Reivew, will publish its first issue in the Spring of 2017.  The publication will be the first of its kind, seeking to publish articles and commentaries on international legal developments that impinge on Brazil, Brazilian law, Brazilian organizations or/and Brazilian citizens.

BALA is proud to serve its community.  BALA runs a number of pro-bono projects in the United States to serve the Brazilian American community, spanning from immigration assistance to mentoring young Brazilian American students.
